I had to wait sooo long to meet this little princess! We didn’t meet until her 16th day. Darn cold & flu season. It was worth the wait and she did amazing even as an “older” newborn. I look forward to watching you grow, just as I have watched your big sister grow over the years. Thank you Gina + Tyler, she’s amazing. ♥

We thought maybe Miss Olivia may like to see some ideas instead of us trying to “pose” her with baby sister. Hello, Pinterest!

It was just that kind of a day. ;)

Gauge was a champ. We were done with his session in 2 hours. He didn’t cry, didn’t make a peep. More to come of this sweet little guy.

Peoria IL newborn photographer | The clients who asked for artsy bokeh

In the pre-session client questionnaire I ask what you’d like to see in your images – and I about peed when I saw the words “artsy bokeh”. I’ve never had a client mention the word bokeh! I was so stoked! “Yes!”, I thought! Turns out that Sarah & Jason are professors in a liberal arts college. They are awesome. Jason is a super nice, funny guy. Sarah hand painted a wall in their home that looks so intricate I just assumed it was wallpaper. She decorated their home – and it’s so peaceful & artsy. !

You’ll see by the plethora of images following this spiel – but this is one of my favorite sessions to date. Before we had a newborn session though, we had a maternity session. It was really nice to get to know Sarah & Jason before they had their baby; it helped me tailor the newborn session a bit more. I saw that Jason is kind of a goofball & does so great at making his wife, Sarah, laugh. He did the “Chandler face” (from the show Friends? Remember?) a few times! He even saw me get so excited that I jumped up & down while I laughed……embarrassing! But….yeah. With me you’ll have that :)

I never blogged the maternity, so here are a few images from that session :)

Now…on to baby Isaac. Sarah & Jason told me during our newborn session that he was named Isaac Luke because it means ‘laughter & light’. I thought that was beautiful. Heck, I named my daughter Lauren Leigh because I loved how it looked when I wrote it on paper :) So this is much more meaningful.

Our session was just super relaxed & peaceful – Isaac is a boob man, he really likes to eat. Did I just say that?! Yes. He ate quite a bit during the session and it kept him very happy & very sleepy. I loved taking his picture when he’d just eaten, because he literally looked like the happiest little person on the planet. Very fulfilled.

Adore this. They are so connected & so excited about this baby – I just love that they held hands :)

Newborn sessions are pretty peaceful, I’ll have to give him that. Poor, tired new parents!

Being originally from Texas, dad was so happy to get those Hook’em Horns.

It was my absolute honor to work with you two (three!) – and I would be so happy to do it again and again!

Perfection. This little guy is perfection! I wanted to scoop him up and sneak him back to my place. He loves mom, dad, milk and sleeping.

I will say I was a little concerned that Marissa may not sleep – she was 15 days old and right at the point where babies start to stay awake a little longer throughout the day – which is why a lot of newborn photographers prefer to work with newborns in the first 10 days (or first two weeks). I had a 14-day-old a few days before this session and he wanted to participate most of the session (a.k.a. he didn’t want to sleep). But Marissa slept!!! She slept the entire time. She even struck a pose within the first set of shots I took! I’m convinced she was born to model for the camera. :) And Marissa’s Aunt Molly was my lovely assistant since my regular assistant couldn’t be there. Thanks Molly for holding the blanket nice & tight! Well, enjoy a few photos from our session and happy 1 month tomorrow baby girl! ♥

Mr. Aaron was exactly 14 days on session day. He felt like actively participating in this session – very much awake for most of it, but still very good! No fussing, no crying. He just didn’t want to miss out on the fun. Oh and fun we did have! The photos tell the story better than I. Weak stomachs…beware.

In retrospect – maybe we had a little warning… but MAN, I was not expecting what happened!

Typically I toss blurry photos. Not this one. These are the faces after…..the explosion heard round the room! I wasn’t sure whether to put my camera down, or document this! So, I documented.

Mom was SUCH a sport. She was first peed on, changed her shirt – then was pooped on. And yet, she smiled. That’s a great woman there – that’s a mom.

This little peanut is almost a month old! Gah – time goes so fast. On session day, Elizabeth was 8 days old. She did an awesome job being my little model for the day! Her furry sister Maisey wanted to join in the photos too – so you’ll get to see her in a few! I love using a macro lens with newborn sessions. The level of detail this lens provides is unbelievable. I love to capture flaky new skin, tiny lashes, belly button, hair, ears… things you will love looking back and remembering. Documenting a new baby is a privilege and I’m honored to be the one to get to do this for so many little sweet peas. Enjoy a few photos from our session!

I’m a newer member to the Peoria Heights Chamber of Commerce, having joined at the end of last year. But I’m very proud to be a member of this great organization of small businesses in the community! The people behind small businesses are passionate about serving you and making your experience one of a kind. That is something the big stores care very little about. Indulge a little and enjoy the experience you get with a small business that wants to cater to you! The Heights has so many great businesses that I, myself, enjoy and I know so many of you would too. On March 28 at the Peoria Heights Library there will be a showcasing of several of them. I am one! I will have a booth with a display of products I am so excited for all of you to come and see and touch and feel. I can tell you all day long about how great a canvas wrap is or fabulous I think float wraps are (I do, I do!) – I can tell you about my mini accordion albums that I love so much – but until you actually see all of these beauties in person, they can’t possibly be all that interesting to you, right? So – it’s FREE, with FREE food & drinks (catering by Salt in Peoria Heights), you have a chance to win ‘Chamber Bucks’ (money towards any business that is part of the Chamber) in amounts of $25, $50, $75 and $100! So, what do YOU have planned on March 28, on a Wednesday evening from 5-7? I hope it’s to come see me and the other amazing businesses that help make Peoria Heights such a great place to be!

Before I end the post, I must include photos. I bet a lot of you think an 11×14 is a large size? I used to. I will say that. I just needed to see the light – and man, have I. I want to show you the bigger picture. Check it out.

The first photo is a 20×30 canvas gallery wrap. It’s a great size. It may sound scary and “too big” to those who love their 11×14 “large” prints, but once you step away from the wall you just hung your portrait on, how well can you see it? How well can you see it from across the room? Because upon entering your living room, or dining room, or bedroom – you want people to enjoy your art. You had a great time helping create it, you paid your hard working money for it, and it deserves to get some Oooh’s and Aaaah’s!

Next is the 11×14 I mentioned. I will let you decide which looks better, but I hope you’d agree the larger print looks much more fabulous ;)
